The Vietnamese second-generation immigrant in Chiayi awarded with the President’s Education Award

Due to family accidents, Lai Jia-qi (賴嘉騏), a second-generation immigrant and student at the National Chiayi Vocational High School (嘉義高商), suffered from depression and social anxiety. His condition afterwards progressively got better under the watchful guidance of his junior high school teachers. Lai had excellent academic standing. He just received the "President’s Education Award" for this year, making him the only high school student in Chiayi City to win the award.

Lai Jia-qi (賴嘉騏) was born in a low-income family. His mother from Vietnam passed away from illness when he was in the fifth year of elementary school, and his father was subsequently jailed as a result of the incident. Lai couldn't take the hit and developed social anxiety and melancholy at the time. It progressively got better with the assistance of physicians and instructors during junior high school. Lai was resolved to transform after high school and stopped isolating himself. He engaged fully in the elementary school camps in addition to working as the class leader, demonstrating his willingness to help everyone. He just received the "President’s Education Award" for this year.

Lai Jia-qi (賴嘉騏) expressed his gratitude to the school teachers for their assistance and company in receiving the President’s Education Award. Additionally, he was selected for the Department of Sociology of National Dong Hwa University this year. Lai stated in this regard that he chose to study the Department of Sociology because he hoped to have a better understanding of the situation of the new immigrants in today's society as well as the chance to assist students who were in his shoes in the future.
