Chinese New Year Street Bazaar in New Taipei City was held recently at the Civic Plaza of New Taipei City. The theme was “Usher in Year of Tiger & Shopping Craze”, and around 80 booths were invited to offer a variety of new year gifts, dishes, and snacks for visitors to choose from.

Director-general of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, He Yi Ming (何怡明), stated that there is gourmet food from India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, etc. offered to the event-goers. It is hoped that the public would be able to have a taste of Southeast Asian cuisines.

Besides the exotic food, there are also art installations with PAPARAYA’s illustrations (虎爺). There are traces of the cute Tigers everywhere at the Civic Plaza of New Taipei City. As long as one spends any amount of money in the market, individuals can exchange for an illustration mask for free.

Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 domestic cases, measures such as contact tracing, temperature screening, mask-wearing, and crowd control were enhanced and implemented at the event.

In addition, the Social Affairs Bureau has collaborated with 95 non-governmental units that include civic groups, individuals, businesses, and religious groups to provide emergency aid and new year dishes to those in need. It is hoped that they would be able to have a great Chinese New Year ahead.
