Because of the epidemic, the 2021 Southeast Asia Short Film Festival (SeaShorts Film Festival 東南亞短片節) was again held online. From August 25th to September 2nd, 60 short films from Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, etc. will be shown. The organizer will broadcast 4 Golden Harvest Awards for Outstanding short films (金穗獎短片) in the "No Home Movies" short film category.

The SeaShorts Film Festival was founded in 2017 by the famous Malaysian film director, Chen Tsui-mei (陳翠梅), hoping to promote cultural exchanges by introducing many Southeast Asian short films to Malaysia for screening. The main activities every year include short film competitions, short film observations, forums, and workshops.

According to the Ministry of Culture (MOC, 文化部), among the four Taiwanese works,“Remigrate” by director Hu Chun-chuan (胡鈞荃) uses 3D scanning technology to bring to life the childhood background of the director’s Taiwanese mother in Myanmar, “Pulang” (季候風) depicts the family challenges faced by a young transnational couple, "There" (入世) tells the story of an Indonesian caregiver who becomes the representative of a Taiwan family in a traditional funeral; "Before and After" (女兒牆) is a monologue about the experiences of a foreign spouse in Taiwan.

In addition, the Short Film Festival is one of the annual big events organized by the Southeast Asia Short Film Society (SeaShorts Film Society, 東南亞短片協會). The purpose of the film society is to use short films as a medium to promote appreciation and understanding of different cultures in Southeast Asia, and to showcase excellent short films.
