The Taoyuan City Service Station of the Northern District Affairs Brigade, National Immigration Agency recently held a family education and legal information session for new immigrants, promoting the "113 Academic Year Empowerment and Scholarship Program for New Immigrants and Their Children." The event also featured counseling psychologist Huang Zhiying, who shared insights in a talk titled "Navigating Marriage and Family Relationships: Don&rsquot Let Love Be Defeated by Daily Life." The session aimed to help new immigrant couples improve their relationship skills and manage cross-cultural marriages effectively.
Huang Zhiying introduced the topic with "From the Promise of Love to the Shackles of Love," encouraging participants to reflect on how love, which begins with beautiful promises, can sometimes turn into pressure and restraint. She shared real-life cases and explained Satir&rsquos Iceberg Theory, emphasizing that individuals, due to differences in family backgrounds and upbringing, develop divergent perspectives, biases, expectations, and desires. These differences often lead to misunderstandings when behavior and emotions are perceived differently by one&rsquos partner. Thus, understanding, tolerance, and adaptation are essential for maintaining marital harmony.
Additionally, Huang Zhiying introduced an interactive board game experience called "Dabao," designed to enhance participants' observation, reaction, and focus skills. Through the game, participants could identify their own cognitive blind spots about their partners and learn to understand them more comprehensively.
