To enhance the convenience and service quality of border crossings, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) of the Ministry of the Interior is actively promoting the construction of next-generation automated immigration clearance systems (e-Gates) at major international airports and seaports. At Taichung International Airport, a full upgrade is scheduled from May 6 to June 30, 2025. During this period, the current four first-generation e-Gates will be replaced with the 4th-generation Automated Immigration Clearance System, aiming to provide travelers with a faster and higher-quality immigration experience. The first-generation e-Gate at Taichung International Airport&rsquos departure passport control will undergo upgrade work starting in May. The new-generation e-Gate integrates both registration and clearance in a single process. Citizens of the Republic of China (Taiwan) aged 10 or above and taller than 120 cm with a valid e-passport can use the system directly without prior registration, significantly reducing wait times and improving efficiency. The NIA encourages the public to take advantage of the upgraded e-Gates when traveling abroad to enjoy a more modern and intelligent airport service experience.
