Summer is the most vibrant season at Dakeng Ecological Park. Butterflies flutter gracefully, rhinoceros beetles feast on tree sap, and there&rsquos even a chance to witness black-winged cicadas emerging from the ground and transforming into adults. The Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau warmly invites the public to participate in the 2025 Dakeng Butterfly and Firefly Carnival &ndash Summer Butterfly Watching Event, a celebration of nature&rsquos wonders. The event runs from May 18 to June 8, with the first registration opening on May 12.

The Bureau stated that five guided butterfly ecology tours have been planned, perfect for parent-child participation. Participants who successfully register and complete payment online will be led by professional guides to explore the ecological environment of Dakeng. They will also receive a limited-edition souvenir, take part in a hands-on DIY craft session, and enjoy a delicious dessert bento. Those who complete specific on-site tasks can also receive a NT$100 voucher for use in the Dakeng commercial district.Volunteers Guide You to Find Butterflies (Photo / Sourced from Taichung City Government Website)Volunteers Guide You to Find Butterflies (Photo / Sourced from Taichung City Government Website)

Notably, participants of the &ldquoDakeng 10K Walk&rdquo organized by the Vitalon Foundation on April 12 can redeem an exclusive butterfly-themed gift during the carnival by presenting the event hat they received during the walk. Supplies are limited and available while they last.

The Scenic Area Management Office noted that registration will be open in two phases&mdashMay 12 and May 26 at 10:00 AM. Interested participants are advised to confirm their schedule before registering to ensure a quality experience and efficient use of resources. A registration fee of NT$200 per person is required, and registration is only complete once payment is made within the designated time. For afternoon craft sessions, elementary school children and above are recommended, and participants must be able to complete their work independently.Butterfly Ecology Interpretation (Photo / Sourced from Taichung City Government Website)Butterfly Ecology Interpretation (Photo / Sourced from Taichung City Government Website)

The office also reminds the public that Dakeng Ecological Park is an open natural area. Visitors should not enter insect habitats (such as grassy areas or ecological ponds) or capture insects to help preserve the natural environment. On the day of the event, long sleeves, pants, hats, and cloth shoes are recommended to prevent insect bites and ensure comfort and safety.
