A single-engine training aircraft made an emergency landing on Interstate 10 in Florida on Monday after experiencing engine trouble during flight. The pilot was unable to return to Pensacola International Airport but safely landed on the highway without injuring anyone on board or motorists nearby.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Piper PA-28 Cherokee encountered falling oil pressure while approaching the airport, and oil fumes began filling the cockpit. As the engine continued to lose power, the pilot determined that reaching the airport was no longer possible and prepared for an emergency landing.

The aircraft was carrying two people, including the pilot and a flight student. While remaining in contact with air traffic controllers, the pilot aligned the aircraft with Interstate 10 and carefully maneuvered around traffic before touching down. A truck driver who witnessed the incident said the airplane passed only a few meters in front of his vehicle, calling the safe landing "a miracle."

The FAA has opened an investigation into the incident. Dashcam footage captured the aircraft gliding beneath an overhead highway sign before landing smoothly in an open lane, narrowly avoiding both roadside structures and passing vehicles. Authorities confirmed that neither the occupants of the aircraft nor anyone on the highway was injured.
