For many travelers, a journey is not only about reaching a destination, but also about slowly experiencing changes in scenery along the way. The tourist train Shanlan Train, scheduled to begin service in April, has launched a new route from Tainan to Changhua, offering a new rail travel option for those who prefer to slow down and take in the landscapes along the journey.

Departing from Tainan, the train stops at Houbi, Ershui, Shetou, and Dalin, connecting the southern plains with the mountain regions of central Taiwan. Views outside the window shift from expansive farmland and rolling hills to small towns rich in railway character. Without the need for frequent transfers or rushing through itineraries, passengers can experience the gradual unfolding of landscapes directly from their seats, making the journey itself part of the travel experience.

The appeal of the Shanlan Train lies not only in its route but also in the onboard experience. The exterior design draws inspiration from morning mist at the boundary between Taiwan’s mountains and plains, allowing the train to blend naturally into the surrounding scenery. Inside, the cars feature a minimalist design with soft lighting and large observation windows, creating a calm and comfortable atmosphere where passengers can relax and focus on the changing scenery along the route.

Dining is also an integral part of the journey. The Shanlan Train offers multi-compartment boxed meals made with local ingredients from areas along the route and nearby regions, incorporating regional flavors into the rhythm of travel and turning mealtime into a memorable part of the rail journey. The Shanlan Train offers multi-compartment boxed meals made with local ingredients along the route, enabling passengers to savor regional flavors during the rail journey. As travel trends increasingly favor slower-paced, experience-oriented trips, the Shanlan Train route from Tainan to Changhua provides an option that does not require driving or complex itinerary planning. By linking mountain towns and rural areas through rail, travelers can rediscover the landscapes and pace of life in central and southern Taiwan at a more relaxed speed, even within a limited holiday timeframe.
