Taiwan's first joint wedding in the air will take 66 couples above 10,000 feet to exchange vows. Set for October 20, the Taichung civil mass wedding includes a charter flight to Okinawa and two round-trip tickets for each selected couple, combining the ceremony with an overseas honeymoon.
Nearly 1,300 couples are competing for 66 spots, or about one place for every 20 applicants. Registration does not guarantee admission. Applications must pass an eligibility review before the final couples are selected in a public draw.
Selected couples will exchange vows aboard the charter flight. After landing, an Okinawa wedding tourism team will hold an airport welcome and present traditional Okinawan craft souvenirs, extending the celebration into the honeymoon.
The event also links Taichung and Okinawa's wedding tourism resources for the first time. The Okinawa Resort Wedding Association represents more than 170 bridal studios, chapels, hotels and related businesses. Its initial cooperation with the Taichung City Government covers the welcome event and special gifts, while opening new tourism and cultural exchanges.
Applications close August 14, with 66 eligible couples chosen by public draw. Applicants should check the requirements and documents before submission, then follow event and itinerary notices if selected. Eligibility, drawing procedures and other rules are subject to Taichung City Government announcements.
