U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, Mark Napper, at the Hanoi International Defense Exhibition, emphasized that the U.S. is committed to helping Vietnam enhance its military modernization capabilities. The exhibition gathered representatives from over 250 defense companies worldwide, including renowned U.S. manufacturers Boeing and Lockheed Martin. As a key geopolitical player in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has been actively seeking diversification in military equipment to reduce reliance on Russia.
Ambassador Napper mentioned that the cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam goes beyond military equipment and extends to technology transfer and military training, which will help strengthen Vietnam's defense autonomy. He further noted that this partnership aligns with the U.S. strategy for advancing security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Vietnamese military experts believe that this collaboration will not only provide Vietnam with high-end military equipment but also advanced operational techniques and strategic planning methods.Technology transfer and military training help strengthen Vietnam's defense autonomy (Photo / Courtesy of Pixels).
Additionally, the military cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam reflects the growing trust between the two nations. In recent years, Vietnam has actively participated in multilateral military exercises led by the U.S., such as the "Rim of the Pacific" exercises, and has taken steps to strengthen its security presence in the South China Sea. As the bilateral relationship deepens, the U.S. Congress may approve more military aid plans for Vietnam, further supporting the two countries' cooperation on regional security issues.
