You don't have to travel to the countryside to experience rice harvesting. The 2026 New Taipei Wetland Rice Harvest Festival will take place on Aug. 1 and 2 at the Xinhai Phase 3 Artificial Wetland in Banqiao, offering 500 places for participants to harvest rice, thresh grain, and learn about wetland ecology and low-carbon living.

Instead of a traditional tourist farm, the event is held in an urban riverside wetland. Visitors can enter the paddy fields during harvest season, experience the harvesting process firsthand, and see how farming and wetland conservation coexist in the city.

In addition to rice harvesting and threshing, the program includes straw DIY activities and guided wetland tours. Participants can also learn how artificial wetlands provide wildlife habitats and help improve water quality.

The event also introduces concepts such as carbon footprints, carbon labels, and low-carbon lifestyles, helping visitors understand how everyday choices can reduce carbon emissions.

The event will be held in two sessions, with 250 participants each. Registration is now open. More information is available on the High Riverbank Construction Management Office, New Taipei City Government website and the Dahan River Wetland Ecological Corridor Service Center Facebook page.
