Hsinchu City's annual Dragon Boat Festival event, the "2026 Hsinchu City Dragon Boat Race", will take place from June 19 to 21 at Nanliao Old Fishing Port. A total of 143 teams have registered, setting a new record. The event has also been expanded from two days to three days for the first time, making it one of the city's key Dragon Boat Festival holiday activities.

The city government recently held a dragon boat eye-dotting ceremony and harbor blessing ritual to mark the start of the event. Participants include government agencies, companies and universities. Corporate teams from Hsinchu Science Park, student teams and teams from other cities and counties will also compete, reflecting the growing influence of the event.

Competition facilities and the racing environment have been upgraded this year. Carbon-fiber paddles certified by the International Dragon Boat Federation will be used, and safety equipment such as life jackets has been renewed. Teams will conduct on-water practice sessions before the race.

In addition to the races, visitors can enjoy cheerleading performances, flair bartending shows and magic performances, creating a festival atmosphere that combines sports, culture and family-friendly entertainment.

On the finals day, June 21, visitors can join hands-on activities featuring dragon boat and rice dumpling-themed souvenirs, while a food market will offer local specialties. More information is available on the "Explore Hsinchu" Facebook page.
