As spring arrives, the Northern Cross-Island Highway in Taoyuan's Fuxing District once again welcomes its annual cherry blossom season. According to the Taoyuan City Government Tourism Department, the area features a wide variety of cherry blossom species, with blooming periods spanning from late January to late March. From Taiwan cherry blossoms and weeping cherries to double-flowered cherries, Showa cherries, and Kuril cherries, the blossoms bloom in succession, creating pink landscapes across the mountains and offering ideal conditions for one- or two-day leisurely blossom-viewing trips.
The Tourism Department noted that the season begins with Taiwan's native cherry blossoms, whose deep crimson flowers appear first at locations such as Jiaobanshan Residence, Dongyanshan Cherry Blossom Avenue, Luoma Highway, and Shanggaoyi. Weeping cherry blossoms along Shilang Road in Fuxing District form cascading pink scenery. As February begins, double-flowered cherries, Fuji cherries, and Yoshino cherries gradually reach full bloom, bringing increased vibrancy to the region.

From mid-February onward, areas including Biyawai, Kavalan Tribe, Guanghua Cherry Story Trail, Zhongbaling Cherry Walkway, and Lala Mountain Visitor Center welcome blooming Showa and double-flowered cherries. From late February to mid-March, Kuril cherries bloom in Shangbaling and Lala Mountain areas, marking the final phase of the cherry blossom season while extending viewing opportunities through early spring.
To help visitors plan their trips, the city government has released the “2026 Northern Cross-Island Highway Cherry Blossom Walk Map,” compiling historical bloom data and estimated flowering periods. The Tourism Department encourages visitors to download the map via the Taoyuan Scenic Area Administration or the Explore Northern Cross-Island Highway social media pages, and to enjoy the seasonal beauty of cherry blossoms amid the mountain landscape.
