Department of Labor, Taipei City Government launches "online Chinese language courses" for Migrant Workers

The Department of Labor, Taipei City Government (BOLA) provides Chinese language courses for migrant workers to take at home to remove language barriers and misunderstandings between migrant workers and their employers. This allows migrant workers to learn while preventing the risk of infections.

A Vietnamese migrant worker, Juan Shih-yü 阮氏玉 said that during the epidemic, he avoided going out and stayed home to learn Chinese in his free time. He usually spends 2 hours, sometimes 3, studying every day. A migrant worker from the Philippines Maribel Macabulos Sandoval said that learning Chinese is not easy and that she is very busy taking care of the elderly, however, she still tries to find the time to practice her Chinese. Suparni, an Indonesian migrant worker said that although taking online Chinese courses is convenient, he still hopes that the epidemic will end and that life will go back to normal soon.
