With AI courses multiplying, beginners may not know where to start. For the first time, the Ministry of Education is using AI to select 18 free online AI courses from its MOE MOOCs platform, with each course matched to four AI skills to help learners choose a direction.
Working with a National Taiwan Normal University team, the ministry introduced an AI assessment bot to rate courses on engagement, content depth, hands-on practice, structural clarity and application breadth. The first 18 recommendations cover areas from AI fundamentals to machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing and computer vision, based on the AI competency framework for future talent.
The four skills are learning with AI, using AI responsibly, solving problems with AI and developing abilities AI cannot replace. The recommendations therefore cover responsible use and practical problem-solving as well as basic AI use, while highlighting human capabilities needed in the AI era.
The framework was released by the Ministry of Education in May as a reference for AI education and talent development in schools. It is now linked to courses on the online learning platform, allowing learners to choose courses according to the skills they want to develop.
The platform has more than 2,000 cross-disciplinary online courses, along with topic sections, personalized recommendations and subtitle generation. AI courses are free, with certificates available after completion. Some courses may count toward university credits according to individual school rules. The 18 recommended courses and their skill indicators are available in the platform's AI course section.
