The smells and flavors found in traditional markets often carry memories of home. Kaohsiung New Immigrant Center is presenting the interactive theater performance “The Taste of Home,” created by Echo Theater, inviting audiences to explore stories of family, food, and markets through the perspective of a traveler returning home.
The story centers on a girl who grew up in a traditional market. Childhood memories shared with her grandmother gradually connect life experiences between Taiwan and Vietnam. Throughout the performance, audiences can hear the lively sounds of market vendors, experience the aromas of multicultural cuisine, and discover stories about family, culture, and growing up behind every meal.
Presented in an interactive theater format, the event reflects the daily lives and cultural memories of new immigrant families. Audiences are also invited to share the flavors and dishes that remind them most of home, creating emotional connections through storytelling and food.
“The Taste of Home” will be held in two sessions with identical content: May 31 at the Experimental Theater of Sanmin Branch Library in Kaohsiung and June 13 at the Literature Screening Room of Kaohsiung Literary Museum. The event is open to the public and new immigrant families, and is suitable for parents and children aged 8 and above.
