Taoyuan is not only a major hub for technology but also a city rich with human stories. To highlight how residents capture local culture through visual storytelling, the Taoyuan City Government will hold the “City in the Eyes, Stories in the Images” Citizen Film Exhibition from November 7 to 26. The event brings together resources from both the Department of Information and the Department of Cultural Affairs to present the creative strength of citizen-generated films.

According to the Department of Information, more than 3,700 participants have joined Taoyuan’s image empowerment programs, producing over 500 works. Through their cameras, citizens observe urban textures and document everyday life, offering diverse perspectives on the city. The department promotes “media accessibility,” encouraging residents to discover stories in daily life and develop visual expression skills. Meanwhile, the Department of Cultural Affairs supports creators through documentary contests and training courses, guiding them to explore social issues and preserve the collective memory of Taoyuan.p1(Exhibition information / Screenshot from “Tao Chih-Tao” Facebook page)

The exhibition features a wide range of themes, including news reports, observational documentaries, social media–style videos, and short films. Topics span from morning market scenes and elder interviews to youth culture and urban transformation—portraying Taoyuan’s vibrant and ever-evolving character.

This year, the city government introduced a new co-learning and co-creation model, inviting emerging documentary filmmakers from the Department of Cultural Affairs to mentor participants in the Department of Information’s filmmaking workshops. Together, they produced four collaborative short films, shifting film education from one-way teaching to shared creation—injecting fresh energy into citizen film production.
