According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, on Sunday, the Department of Health (DOH) documented an additional 29,828 new cases of COVID-19 and 36,763 recoveries.

This is the second-highest number of recoveries since the outbreak began, which is thought to be due to the holiday season and the spread of the highly transmissible Omicron strain of the disease.

As a result, active cases fell to 273,580 from 280,619 on Saturday. Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 3,417,216, with 3,090,164 recoveries.

On the other side, 41.8 percent of the 69,014 tests done on Jan. 21 were positive.

According to the DOH study, 98 percent of the new infections, or 29,237, occurred within the last 14 days. It showed that Metro Manila had the highest number of new cases in the last two weeks, with 5,178 new cases (18%), followed by Region 4-A with 4,227 (14%) and Region 3 with 2,787 (12%). (10 percent).

According to the Department of Health, 98.2 percent of active cases are mild or asymptomatic; specifically, 260,399 people have mild cases, 8,371 have asymptomatic cases, 3,006 have moderate cases, 1,496 have severe cases, and 308 have critical cases.

According to the DOH, 67 persons have died as a result of the coronavirus, bringing the total fatalities to 53,472.
