According to reporting by CNN, Samsung is preparing a new Galaxy Z device that folds in three sections, signaling a fresh direction in the evolution of foldable smartphones. The tri-fold concept would allow the handset to shift between a compact phone and a much larger display, positioning it closer to a tablet when fully unfolded.

Industry watchers say the design reflects Samsung’s effort to differentiate itself in a maturing foldables market. While current foldable phones typically hinge once, the proposed tri-fold format introduces added flexibility but also raises questions about durability, weight and battery performance. Samsung has indicated it is refining materials and hinge engineering to address those challenges.

The report notes that Samsung has showcased early versions of multi-fold displays in recent years but has not yet brought a tri-fold phone to consumers. Analysts believe the company may use the device to test demand among premium users before committing to mass production. Pricing is expected to be high, at least initially, given the complexity of the design.

If launched, the tri-fold Galaxy Z phone could intensify competition in the foldables segment and set new expectations for multitasking and mobile productivity. However, experts caution that mainstream adoption will depend on whether Samsung can balance innovation with reliability and everyday usability.
