Mosquito repellents and hanging repellent products brought back from overseas for personal use are different from reselling them online. People who bring popular products home and list them on online marketplaces or social media may face fines of up to NT$300,000. Taipei City Department of Environmental Protection reminds the public that environmental pesticides are regulated products and cannot be advertised or sold without the required permits.

Imported environmental pesticides brought back from overseas are for personal use only and cannot be resold online. Advertising such products online, in stores or through media also requires an environmental pesticide permit, a pesticide sales permit or a vector control business permit.

Products such as mosquito repellent patches, bracelets and sprays may violate regulations if resold through purchasing agents while claiming mosquito-repelling effects. Insecticides and repellents sold online may also violate regulations if they describe efficacy, use, production or safety. Even general essential oils and patches may be subject to the rules if they claim to "kill insects", "kill ants" or "repel mosquitoes".

Buyers should also check whether online mosquito and insect control products are legally approved. Approval numbers such as "MOENV/MOHW health manufacture", "MOENV/MOHW health import" or "environmental pesticide insect control" markings can help identify approved products. Do not rely only on sellers' claims or prices.

If a product's status is unclear, check it through the Environmental Pesticide Permit and License Search System. For vector control, removing breeding sources and keeping the environment clean can also reduce reliance on pesticides.
