During the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, the Directorate General of Highways, in response to the Ministry of Transportation's "Happy Green Transport" policy to increase public transportation usage, has collaborated with 12 national highway bus operators to offer the largest-ever 60% discount on 90 long- and medium-distance routes. Additionally, discounts are available for transfers to local buses and Happy Buses. This initiative is expected to attract a large number of people to switch to national highway buses and reduce the use of private vehicles, thus alleviating traffic congestion.
The Directorate General of Highways mentioned that in previous holiday periods, the discount on national highway bus tickets was 15%. However, for this Lunar New Year, to encourage more people to use public transportation, the discount has been increased to 40%, effective from January 24, 2025 (the day before the holiday) until February 2, 2025. This will make travel during the holidays or family reunions more affordable and hassle-free.

In addition to the expanded ticket discounts, passengers who use electronic tickets for travel on national highway buses, Taiwan Railways, or Taiwan High-Speed Rail within 10 hours can transfer to local buses and enjoy a free ride for one segment or the basic mileage. Furthermore, 75 designated Happy Bus routes will be available for free, providing a more convenient "last mile" for those returning home.
Additionally, traditional promotions such as car rental discounts in the eastern regions and the "4 people, 1 free" offer will continue during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025. After traveling on eastern national highway buses, passengers can rent cars or motorcycles from designated local providers and enjoy discounted return tickets. Purchasing Taiwan Fun packages or booking accommodations will also grant a "1 free with 4 people" offer, making car rentals and accommodations in the eastern regions even more affordable during the 9-day holiday.
