The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) continues to uphold this vision in its 2025 exhibition planning. The museum will present permanent collection exhibitions and senior artist research exhibitions, focusing on the development of different generations of Taiwanese artists. The goal is for visitors to appreciate art while also understanding the history intertwined with the land and the times. At the same time, through more international collaborations, the museum seeks to explore and connect outward, finding Taiwan&rsquos unique position in the global art scene. Wang Lien-Sheng: The Ethical Machine of Utopia

Opening in January, "The Ethical Machine of Utopia" by Wang Lien-Sheng extends discussions on artificial intelligence (AI), one of today&rsquos most trending topics. The exhibition examines whether AI&rsquos data processing carries human values or moral awareness. Through interactive installations and AI technology, it explores the capability of AI to comprehend and respond to human moral choices and the complex interactions between machines and humans.

Alpha Sound Forest

In 2021, NTMoFA established "U108 SPACE", an immersive exhibition and performance venue focused on technological art, which has since become a key highlight of the museum. The first major presentation in 2025, "Alpha Sound Forest," is a collaborative creation by Hsieh Jing-Ying, Timothy Wood, and Chiu Wei-Hao. Liao Shiou-Ping: 90th Anniversary Retrospective

Curated by Taiwanese art historian Hsiao Chong-Ray, this exhibition provides a comprehensive review of Liao Shiou-Ping&rsquos artistic journey, which blends traditional and modern aesthetics. It also examines his contributions to the promotion and education of modern printmaking in Asia.

Dissonant Scores &ndash A Journey Through Sound Art

In April, NTMoFA will once again collaborate with the Centre Pompidou, France. Their last partnership dates back to 1998, when the Pompidou Center&rsquos video art collection was exhibited at NTMoFA. This time, "Dissonant Scores &ndash A Journey Through Sound Art" will feature nearly 30 international artists, exploring the rarely examined realm of sound in art. The exhibition will integrate both Pompidou&rsquos iconic and newly acquired new media art collections, alongside five Taiwanese artists, fostering an international dialogue.
The exhibition will not only highlight sound&rsquos diverse expressions in contemporary art but also delve into its connections to sensory perception, social memory, political structures, and AI-driven soundscapes.

Marks of the Times &ndash National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts Permanent Collection Exhibition

Curated jointly by NTMoFA researchers and external scholars, this exhibition will feature selections from the museum&rsquos collection, tracing Taiwan&rsquos historical evolution from the Ming and Qing periods to the present. It will be divided into thematic sections released over time, covering:

• Calligraphy and paintings influenced by Han culture during the Ming and Qing periods
• Taiwanese modern art and its spectrum of colors
• The post-war wave of modern art to the return of realism
• The transformation of aesthetic expression and personal artistic voices in response to the times
• Reinterpretation and expansion under globalization and digitalization

Contemporary Indigenous Taiwanese Art and Activism

Organized in collaboration with the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, USA, this exhibition is co-curated by Lai Chun-Chieh, Nakaw Putun, and IAIA curator Manuela Well-Off-Man. It focuses on activism in contemporary indigenous art, particularly among new-generation indigenous artists, exploring themes such as identity, survival struggles, environmental awareness, gender, and ethnic identity. The exhibition also examines how indigenous activism manifests in artistic ecosystems.
Alongside the exhibition, IAIA will host a series of events, and selected artists will participate in short-term residencies, fostering cultural and academic exchanges with local indigenous communities.
