To ease childcare and medical expenses, Taitung County launched a National Health Insurance premium subsidy for children under age 6 in July. The county government covers the self-paid portion of the premium while also upgrading the fourth-generation TT BABY childcare birthday gift package.
Eligible children are covered from the time their birth registration is completed in Taitung County. Children who move their household registration to Taitung also qualify after one year of residency if they are under age 6. Eligibility is unaffected even if the child is insured as a dependent under a parent or another family member.
In addition to the premium subsidy, the Health Bureau has introduced a maternity care package this year for expectant mothers admitted to participating hospitals. The fourth-generation childcare birthday gift package has also been upgraded with new children's items, stroller hooks, a maternity belly band and a larger diaper changing pad.
The county government has also expanded other family support measures this year, including National Health Insurance premium subsidies for eligible residents aged 70 and above and free nutritious lunches at public elementary and junior high schools. Beginning with the 2026 academic year, the free lunch program will be expanded to cover more students.
