Another fake online shopping scam involving mangoes has been reported in Taitung County. A woman recently avoided losing NT$100,000 after questioning a seller's request for "identity verification" and confirming it with police.

As mango season begins, many people buy fruit advertised as "direct from farms" or at discounted prices through social media. Police warn that fake shopping scams combined with fake customer service remain common, and shoppers should stay alert.

After placing an order through a Facebook post, the woman was asked to complete "identity verification" and was referred to a fake customer service representative. She was told to provide bank account details and use an account with more than NT$100,000 in transaction records to complete verification.

Realizing the request was inconsistent with anti-fraud advice, she reported the case to police. Officers confirmed it was a typical fake shopping scam designed to steal personal and banking information. She stopped the process in time and the case was reported through the 165 Anti-Fraud system.

Police also remind the public that seasonal products such as fruit and fresh produce have become common scam targets. Anyone asked to provide bank account information, verify funds or operate online banking should first call the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline or 110 for verification.
