According to a recent Japanese study, even 10 minutes of running can improve our mood and cognitive function.

Physical activity is beneficial to our health, well-being, and brain, as several scientific studies have demonstrated over the years.

However, according to a recent study published in the journal Scientific Reports, a simple 10-minute run can affect our mood and brain function.

According to researchers at the University of Tsukuba in Japan, running for 10 minutes has a greater impact than cycling, which is commonly utilized in scientific studies.

The researchers focused on the effects of jogging on the brain in this study.

The study notes that "running, as opposed to cycling, is a whole-body locomotive action that may impart higher mental wellness via strongly engaging brains." "While running has been shown to improve mental health, the underlying brain mechanisms have yet to be discovered," the authors say, noting that many research have been conducted using cycling as a model.

The researchers recruited 26 healthy people to learn more. A 10-minute treadmill run was done by each participant. The level of difficulty was moderate.

After that, each participant was given an equal amount of time to rest.

The researchers assessed the degree of oxygenation in the bilateral prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain that controls mood and executive processes, to see how this physical exercise affected them. Near-infrared spectroscopy techniques were employed to accomplish this.

After the workout, the volunteers were given the "Stroop" color-word matching test, which is used to measure reaction times in brain processing.

A color, such as "green," is written in red here. The participants were then required to say the color that was utilized rather than the printed term.

The researchers observed that brain activity was clearly stimulated after these examinations. In addition, the individuals' moods improved.
