Escape rooms have become a popular indoor entertainment activity in recent years, but venue safety concerns have also drawn attention. The Taipei City Government recently carried out joint public safety inspections at 34 escape room venues across Taipei and found 12 operators involved in fire equipment, escape safety and illegal renovation violations. Authorities issued 15 fines totaling NT$1.04 million.

The inspections were conducted by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Fire Department, Department of Urban Development and Office of Building Standards. Key checks focused on fire equipment, building use and operational safety. Inspectors found incomplete fire door closures, faulty exit signs, missing alarms and fire extinguishers, as well as unauthorized interior renovations.

Because escape rooms are mostly enclosed spaces, emergency escape routes and fire safety equipment are especially important during incidents. The city government has ordered operators to complete improvements within the required period or face additional penalties.

In addition, 2 venues operated by "Logic Screwdriver", where accidents previously occurred, were ordered to suspend operations. Another 9 operators were referred for violations related to land use regulations. The city government also asked operators to complete public liability insurance coverage as soon as possible to reduce accident risks.
