Elon Musk, co-chair of the newly established "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) under President Trump, has recently defended the U.S. tech industry's reliance on foreign engineers. He emphasized that the U.S. faces a severe shortage of talented domestic engineers, which poses a significant challenge to the competitiveness of the technology sector.

There is widespread anticipation that the newly inaugurated Trump administration will tighten visa controls, particularly focusing on the H-1B visa program for foreign technical professionals. This has sparked concern among tech companies about potential operational impacts, prompting industry leaders to publicly advocate for the continuation of H-1B visas for highly skilled talent.EngMaskp1.jpgTrump's New Immigration Talent Policies Have U.S. Tech Firms on High Alert. Recently, Musk shared on social media: "There are far too few talented engineers and ambitious individuals in the United States." He compared running a tech company to managing a professional sports team, stating that success depends on recruiting top talent from around the world to maintain a competitive edge.

Musk rejected the argument that hiring foreign workers deprives Americans of job opportunities, describing such views as "backward and misguided." While he expressed a preference for hiring American talent&mdashciting greater efficiency and the avoidance of complex visa procedures&mdashhe stressed that the U.S. lacks sufficient skilled and motivated engineers. Consequently, global talent recruitment is critical for maintaining competitiveness.

As a South African-born entrepreneur with a Canadian mother, Musk shared his personal experience, stating, "The reason I&rsquom in America and able to build SpaceX, Tesla, and other essential companies that strengthen the U.S. is because of the H-1B program."

Musk's remarks highlight the U.S. tech sector's reliance on international talent. As Silicon Valley races to advance AI technologies, the need for global expertise is acute. The issue of high-skilled worker visas is expected to spark significant debate within the Trump administration.
