Taiwans National Health Insurance Administration NHI has received reports of scam messages and emails impersonating the agency claiming that account reviews and refunds are being issued to mark the 30th anniversary of the National Health Insurance system. The NHI clarified that these messages are fraudulent and urged the public to delete them immediately and avoid clicking any links to prevent personal data breaches.

The NHI explained that official notifications regarding payments or refunds are issued only through stamped formal documents or via the governments official 111 short code SMS. Emails sent by the NHI always use the nhi.gov.tw domain and include a digital signature. Recent scam attempts have become more deceptive with senders appearing as NHI.GOV.TW and referencing refunds or payment claims which are common fraud patterns.

The NHI cautioned that such scam emails often contain phishing links that may steal personal information including account credentials or infect devices with malware. Individuals who have clicked suspicious links are advised to seek assistance from IT professionals to reduce cybersecurity and financial risks.

The agency reiterated the importance of staying alert when receiving unfamiliar messages websites or links. For verification the public may contact the NHI hotline at 0800 030 598 or 4128 678 landline users or 02 4128 678 mobile users or report suspected fraud to the 165 Anti Fraud Hotline.
