Rules on carrying power banks during flights have been updated. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recently revised its safety guidelines on lithium batteries, introducing clearer restrictions for passengers worldwide.

Under the new regulation, each passenger may carry no more than two power banks, and they must be packed in carry-on luggage rather than checked baggage. In addition, charging power banks during the flight is strictly prohibited.

The move is aimed at reducing risks associated with lithium batteries, which may overheat, short-circuit, or become damaged under pressure, potentially leading to fire hazards in the cabin.

In practice, airport security will check both the quantity and storage method of power banks. Items exceeding the limit may be confiscated or denied boarding.

The stricter rules follow several battery-related incidents in recent years, prompting the aviation industry to strengthen safety management.
