News Focus (November 8 – November 14) 

2021 National Filial Piety Award Ceremony promotes building environments that encourage positive behavior

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) held the 2021 National Filial Piety Award Ceremony and selected 30 winners. Recipients received a trophy and a cash prize of NTD$50,000. Those coming from low or middle-income households can receive an additional NT$30,000. Employers may be fined up to NT$300,000 if they detain migrant worker salaries

The Ministry of Labor (MOL) continues to protect the rights and interests of migrant workers in Taiwan. Employers must pay wages in accordance with labor contracts, and they may be penalized and fined from NT$60,000 to NT$300,000 if they violate the law. The MOL reminds employers to check identities of caregivers

The public is reminded to check for official documents when hiring foreign caregivers. Accidentally hiring illegal foreign workers will result to a fine fromNT$150,000 to NT$750,000. For assistance, please contact the Labor Affairs Bureau or the NIA service stations. 2021 ASEAN Good Voice event for new immigrants to present photos and videos

The Labor Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government organizes the annual ASEAN Good Voice singing competition to promote cultural exchanges between locals and foreigners. This year’s winner is Zhang Lu-lu and she received a Carrefour gift certificate worth $15,000. (Read more: 2021 ASEAN Good Voice!
