When purchasing packaged foods, consumers will soon be able to quickly assess nutritional conditions through color indicators. The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration and Health Promotion Administration are jointly promoting a front-of-package nutrition labeling system that uses red, yellow, and green to indicate levels of sugar, sodium, and saturated fat, allowing consumers to understand basic nutrition information without repeatedly comparing numbers.

According to the plan, the three-color labels will be placed on the front of packaging, enabling consumers to distinguish differences between products directly on store shelves. Green represents lower content, red indicates higher levels, and yellow falls in between. This simple system provides a clear reference and allows faster comparisons across brands or similar products.

Currently, diets commonly show excessive sodium and sugar intake, which may increase the risk of chronic diseases over time. More intuitive labeling is expected to help consumers better understand food content and make decisions more efficiently during daily shopping, gradually improving dietary habits and awareness of nutrition.

The system is still under discussion and public consultation. Future adjustments will be made based on feedback before implementation. Once introduced, the labeling system is expected to become an important reference for food selection and help improve the overall dietary environment and public health awareness.
