On September 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 12 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 12 new cases, two are domestic and the other 10 are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

Regarding the two new domestic cases, Case #16214 is an over 80-year-old female. She sought medical attention for other reasons and was tested for COVID-19 on September 14. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 16. Case #16221 is an over 70-year-old female who was placed under isolation on September 5 by the health authority due to a preschool cluster in northern Taiwan. During her isolation period and before the end of the period, she was tested negative and remained asymptomatic. She sought medical attention for a sore throat and was tested on September 14. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 16.

Regarding the 10 new imported cases, they are five men and five women, aged between 20 to 39 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from South Africa, the US (four cases), Japan (two cases), the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and India. They arrived between August 31 and September 14.

The CECC reported that a total of 3,082,957 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 3,065,218. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,115 cases. Of the 16,115 confirmed cases, 1,488 are imported; 14,573 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 839 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 839 deaths, 829 are from domestic cases and the other 10 are from imported cases.
