The “Hua-Hua-Kan: Migrant and Immigrant Mother-Tongue Picture Book Creation Program,” organized by the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center, is holding its annual exhibition from November 30 to December 7 at the “Return to Homeland Southeast Asian Cultural Base” in Zhonghe’s Myanmar Street, New Taipei City. As the exhibition enters its final stage, the public is encouraged to make the most of the final weekend to visit.
The exhibition features 32 picture books created through this year’s workshops, with selected awards including three top prizes, three excellence awards, and five honorable mentions. Organized into four themes—“Childlike Picasso,” “Cultural Palette,” “Self-Portraits in a Foreign Land,” and “Dream Sketchbooks”—the works reflect life stories and memories of migrants through images and text.
Since its launch in 2019, the program has engaged 202 participants and produced 179 mother-tongue picture books, with creators from Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and more, highlighting Taiwan’s cultural diversity.
Held in the long-established Myanmar Street community, the exhibition integrates local cultural spaces and street exploration. The exhibition is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting visitors to experience stories of migration and multicultural creativity during the final days.
