Disney announces a new theme park in Abu Dhabi, its first new resort in a generation

Disney to Open First-Ever Middle East Theme Park in Abu Dhabi
The Walt Disney Company has announced its first new theme park in 15 years&mdashDisneyland Abu Dhabi, marking Disney&rsquos entry into the Middle East. The resort, to be located on Yas Island, will be developed and operated by Abu Dhabi-based Miral, with Disney Imagineers leading the creative design. The project will feature one theme park and several hotels, and is expected to open in the early 2030s. A Technological Leap in Park Design
Disney promises this will be its most technologically advanced park, blending real-time storytelling, gaming engines like Unreal, and immersive design. The park will sit directly on a waterfront and feature a unique crystal-like castle. It is part of a broader strategy to invest in international destinations amid softening U.S. attendance and growing competition. Despite past Middle East theme park failures, experts say Yas Island&rsquos existing leisure infrastructure offers Disney a strong foundation.

Disney Reports Strong Earnings and Growth
Disney also reported strong Q2 earnings, with $23.6 billion in revenue and $4.4 billion in operating income. Its parks contributed 59% of the company&rsquos 2024 operating income, while streaming services like Disney+ and Hulu also saw subscriber growth. CEO Bob Iger reaffirmed Disney&rsquos resilience, emphasizing the importance of global expansion to balance economic fluctuations.
