Fraud schemes continue to evolve, with scammers now impersonating government officials to gain victims' trust. The Public Works Department of New Taipei City has recently received multiple reports involving unknown individuals pretending to be department directors or senior officials and asking contractors or related parties to add specific LINE accounts under the pretext of discussing official business.

According to the department, some callers falsely claimed to be the director of the Public Works Department and inquired about project progress. Contractors also reported receiving calls from individuals posing as agency heads who requested return calls and directed them to unofficial LINE accounts.

The scammers allegedly used the identities of government officials to establish credibility before attempting to obtain personal information, contact details, or conduct other fraudulent activities. After learning of the incidents, the department notified relevant contractors and filed a police report to help prevent similar cases.

Authorities remind the public not to add unfamiliar LINE accounts or share personal information without verifying the identity of the caller. Anyone encountering suspicious messages or phone calls is encouraged to contact the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline or seek assistance from local police.
