Taichung ASEAN Square is a popular destination for migrant workers and immigrants to hang out with friends on weekends. One can find Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese dishes as well as a variety of Southeast Asian spices here.

National Immigration Agency (Taichung City First Service Center) personnel visited food stalls around Taichung ASEAN Square on holidays to have a test of gourmet food and promote “Prevention of African Swine Fever”.

Xiao Cui (小翠), the owner of a Vietnamese food stall, said that she can find the taste of her hometown at ASEAN Square whenever she misses Vietnamese snacks and food. She also reminded the stall-goers not to purchase pork on the Internet or ask relatives and friends to send meat products to Taiwan to avoid being fined.

The emergency center for African swine fever of Taiwan has stated that if individuals bring or send sausages, bacon, ham, and other pork products from the infected countries (zones) to Taiwan, one will be fined NT$200,000 for the first offense will be fined NT$200,000 and will be fined NT$1 million for the second offense.

If people receive packages containing pork products from a questionable place of origin, they can directly contact the “Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, COA, Executive Yuan” and get the parcel destroyed. Otherwise, the recipient will be liable to a fine of up to NT$150,000.

Zhou You Ren (周佑仁), the Director of Taichung City First Service Center, encouraged the public to enjoy exotic food and culture by visiting Taichung ASEAN Square. In addition, immigrants and foreigners are also encouraged to get vaccinated at the vaccination sites set up here to keep healthy during the Chinese New Year.
