Q: What are the refund methods for foreign individual income tax?
A: There are two refund methods: general refund and direct deposit refund.
A general refund means that after the tax office processes the foreigner's tax return and confirms there is a refundable amount, it issues a tax refund check and notifies the taxpayer to collect it.

When a foreign taxpayer files their annual tax return, they may apply for a &ldquodirect deposit refund,&rdquo where the refund is transferred to a designated bank account. However, this is limited to the taxpayer, their spouse, or dependents with a Foreign ID Number or National ID Number, and the account must be in a participating financial institution or Chunghwa Post.

Q: What should a foreigner do if they cannot collect the tax refund check in person?
A: The foreigner can fill out an &ldquoAuthorization Letter for Tax Refund Collection&rdquo to authorize someone else to collect it.
If the foreigner has already left Taiwan and cannot cash the check, they must also apply to remove the &ldquonon-endorsable&rdquo mark. In this case, the check must be crossed. A copy of the passport showing the signature must be submitted for signature verification with both the endorsement removal and authorization forms.

Q: Where can a foreigner cash an uncrossed tax refund check?
A: Within the valid period, a foreigner can present their passport and cash the check at a designated bank.
