The schedule for the 22nd “2026 Wangong Fishing Lantern Festival” has been officially confirmed. Changhua County Government recently held a divination ceremony at Wangong Fuhai Temple, where County Magistrate Wang Hui-mei sought guidance from Mazu on the festival dates. The ceremony determined that the event will take place on August 8 and 9, 2026 (the 26th and 27th days of the sixth lunar month), with prayers for a smooth event and local peace and prosperity.
According to the county government, the divination process was conducted in two rounds. The first round shortlisted two possible date options, and after a second consultation, Mazu ultimately selected August 8 and 9 as the official dates. The county government warmly invites visitors nationwide to travel to Fangyuan, Changhua during the summer vacation to experience the unique charm of Wangong’s fishing port night scenery and fishing village culture.
Wang Hui-mei noted that the continuous growth of the Wangong Fishing Lantern Festival is made possible through the collective efforts of Fuhai Temple, local township offices, farmers’ and fishermen’s associations, and various organizations. The festival not only showcases strong community cohesion but also boosts tourism and economic development in the Fangyuan area, becoming a signature summer event in Changhua.
The Agriculture Department added that Wangong is well known for oyster farming, particularly its “pearl oysters,” which are cultivated using a flat-hanging method that allows them to grow with tidal movements. This process results in firm texture and distinctive flavor, making them a representative local seafood. During the festival, visitors can enjoy local cuisine while exploring attractions such as Wangong Fishing Port, the sea-sky walkway, intertidal oyster racks, sea ox culture, and sunset views, fully immersing themselves in the coastal village atmosphere.
