Fake Lottery, Real Scam! Fake Customer Service Guides Online Banking Verification, Savings Disappear Instantly!

Recently, some people participated in Instagram giveaway events and received notifications claiming they had won. However, they were told they needed to complete an "online financial account verification" to claim their prize, only to realize it was all a scam. One victim shared that after following the instructions for the so-called "verification," their savings began disappearing one by one. In the end, they failed to receive any prize and lost all their original deposits. Police have pointed out that this type of fake lottery scam mainly operates through social media, using high-value prizes to lure victims. Scammers then use excuses like "abnormal account processing" to trick victims into operating online banking transactions or providing personal financial information. Experts warn that any notification requiring you to join LINE, perform online banking operations, or provide personal information via video call is highly likely to be a scam. Victims should immediately stop communication and seek help from their bank or the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline.

National Immigration Agency and Workforce Development Agency Collaborate to Help Migrant Workers Transition to Mid-Level Skilled Workers in Taiwan

In response to Taiwan's changing demographic structure and increasing demand for skilled labor retention, the Workforce Development Agency's Service Center for Migrant Worker Retention and the National Immigration Agency's Taipei City Service Station of the Northern District Affairs Brigade co-hosted an "Information Session on the Migrant Worker Retention Program" on February 6. Immigration officer Lu Zheng from the Taipei City Service Station stated that, as of 2024, the number of foreign migrant workers in Taiwan has exceeded 820,000, serving as a crucial workforce for many industries and households. The government passed the Migrant Worker Retention Program in 2022 and has since gradually relaxed the eligibility requirements. Currently, migrant workers in Taiwan who have continuously worked for six years, have been employed by the same employer for a total of six years, or have accumulated at least 11 years and six months of employment, and whose salary and technical qualifications meet the relevant application criteria, may apply for a transition to mid-level skilled workers with the assistance of their employer. This transition allows them to continue working in Taiwan and extend their residence period.

New Taipei Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival 2025: A Celebration of Blessings and Innovation

The New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Department has officially announced the exciting details of the 2025 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival. Mayor Hou You-yi, along with event ambassador Lee Da-hye, revealed that this grand celebration will take place on February 8 at Pingxi Junior High School and on February 12, the Lantern Festival, at Shifen Square. This year, the festival will feature a Snake Year-themed main lantern, specially designed to welcome the Year of the Snake. For the first time, the event will incorporate a sky lantern release combined with a light projection show, introducing the "Good Luck Snake Arrives" Sky Lantern Serpent Shadow Performance, which will debut at Pingxi Junior High School on February 8. Additionally, an "International Sky Lantern Pioneer Team" consisting of 60 exchange students from 16 countries will release sky lanterns together, symbolizing wishes for world peace. On February 12, at Shifen Square, the festival will showcase the "Double Heart Snake Lanterns", where two snake-shaped sky lanterns will gracefully ascend into the sky, forming a romantic double-heart pattern. This special design also aligns with the upcoming Western Valentine's Day, bringing an atmosphere full of love and blessings for all attendees.

Free Health Checkups for 30-Year-Olds! Adult Preventive Healthcare Gets an Upgrade

To enhance early detection and intervention for chronic diseases, the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s National Health Agency has announced an upgrade to the Adult Preventive Healthcare Program starting in 2025. Previously, free health checkups were available every three years for individuals aged 40 to 64 and annually for those aged 65 and above. Beginning January 1, 2025, the program will expand to include free checkups every five years for individuals aged 30 to 39, benefiting approximately 3.2 million people. This initiative aims to encourage younger adults to monitor their health early and develop regular checkup habits. Additionally, adjustments will be made to health service content and reimbursement standards for medical institutions, to reduce the risks of the "three highs"—high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. Currently, around 7,000 National Health Insurance-contracted medical institutions nationwide provide this service. Citizens can check availability and make appointments through the official website.
