As the Lunar New Year approaches, holiday markets across the country are becoming increasingly lively, with consumers beginning to purchase snacks and festive gift sets. Faced with a wide range of high-sugar and high-fat products, nutritionists advise that holiday eating does not require complete restriction. Instead, choosing the right types of food and controlling portion sizes are key to maintaining health while enjoying family gatherings.
Shan Shan, a nutritionist from Ai Health Nutritionist, noted that Lunar New Year snacks should follow a principle of “moderate combination.” High-calorie and high-fat foods such as egg rolls, puffs, and dried meats are not forbidden, but their quantities should be limited. In contrast, snacks like nuts and seaweed, which have simpler ingredients and higher nutritional value, can be prepared in greater amounts so that family members of all ages can enjoy them with peace of mind.
When selecting snacks, nutritionists recommend prioritizing unseasoned nuts, non-fried seaweed, low-sugar dark chocolate, high-fiber oats or job’s tears, and additive-free dried fruits. These options not only satisfy taste preferences but also help provide dietary fiber, healthy fats, and phytochemicals, reducing the dietary burden during the holiday season.
Regarding holiday gifts, nutritionists believe that gift sets that are high in quality and do not add unnecessary strain to the body are more thoughtful choices. Common and practical options include white fungus drinks, chicken essence, seasonal fruit gift boxes, pure teas or herbal teas, and healthy cooking oils such as camellia oil and olive oil.
Nutritionists also remind the public that dietary balance can easily be disrupted during the Lunar New Year. Making informed choices at the shopping stage, by selecting foods with simple ingredients and higher nutritional value, can help reduce excessive sugar and fat intake while preserving the festive atmosphere.
