As the seasons change, the bald cypress forest at Gongliao Environmental Park in New Taipei City gradually turns shades of golden yellow and orange-red. Tree silhouettes stretching along the waterfront, combined with their reflections, add a quiet and gentle autumn–winter atmosphere to the coastal settlement. The layered colors and open landscape make the park a popular destination for visitors seeking a slower pace and a closer connection to nature during the cooler months.
In recent years, New Taipei City has promoted the “Mountain–Sea Scenic Route,” a travel concept centered on low-carbon transportation and slow exploration. By linking destinations such as Mudan Shisan Ceng Waterfront Park, the Shuangxi bald cypress area, Yuxing Station, and Gongliao Environmental Park, the route allows journeys by rail, bus, and bicycle to become part of the experience of local life and natural scenery.
Located behind the Gongliao District Office, Gongliao Environmental Park can be reached on foot in about 15 minutes from Gongliao Station, or by bicycle from the Shuangxi area. Preserving its original terrain, the park has reorganized its pathways and waterways. The gentle, well-connected routes are lined with bald cypress trees, making the park suitable for families, cyclists, and visitors who enjoy relaxed walks while observing seasonal changes in light and color.
Visitors may extend their trip to the Mudan Bald Cypress Area, located between Shuangxi and Mudan railway stations. Originally land left after a railway realignment, the site has been transformed into an open forest space with elevated viewing platforms and accessible ramps that balance ecological needs and recreational use. In winter, as leaves fall, the straight tree trunks appear calm and restrained under shifting light, while passing trains nearby create a seasonal scene favored by photography enthusiasts.
The New Taipei City Government Tourism Department noted that autumn and winter are the best seasons to enjoy bald cypress scenery, inviting the public to explore the Mountain–Sea Scenic Route through low-carbon travel and experience the harmony of nature and local communities at an unhurried pace.
