Taiwan’s 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline reminds the public that an OTP is the final security key protecting bank accounts, credit cards, and electronic payment services. Once an OTP is disclosed, fraudsters may immediately gain access to accounts, authorize transactions, or transfer funds, causing substantial financial losses within minutes.

According to the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline, scammers commonly use phishing emails, fake text messages, fraudulent customer service representatives, counterfeit websites, and fake investment platforms to lure victims into clicking malicious links. After victims enter personal information, they are prompted to provide an OTP verification code under various pretexts. Once the code is submitted, scammers can instantly complete unauthorized transactions before victims realize they have been deceived.

The hotline emphasized that banks, government agencies, e-commerce platforms, and logistics companies will never ask customers to disclose their OTP verification codes. Anyone requesting an OTP—regardless of the reason—is highly likely to be attempting fraud. The public is urged never to follow such instructions or provide verification codes to anyone.
