In line with Gender Equality Education Day, the Taipei City Family Education Center has planned a long-term series of gender equality courses running from April to November. Online picture book storytelling sessions will be held every Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., using different themes to introduce self-identity, emotional understanding, and inclusion of diversity, so that gender equality can begin to grow from everyday family life.
The courses use picture books as the main learning tool, together with parent-child reading and discussion, guiding children to understand themselves through stories while learning to understand others. Taking the April theme "My Own Color" as an example, children explore their own traits through characters in the story, helping families build the idea of respecting differences through interaction. Later themes will extend to body boundaries, emotional connection, and multicultural understanding, allowing learning to progress step by step.
In addition to the long-term courses, the center is also planning practical support programs. Among them, a caregiver support course will begin on April 25, focusing on emotional and sexuality education issues for youth with special needs and responding to the real needs of caregivers during the process of support.
The course content covers ways to communicate about sexuality education, how to build relationship boundaries, risk awareness, and situations involving online friendship, helping caregivers gain more concrete understanding and clearer ways to respond when facing their children's emotional development. The center is also working with the Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation to combine practical experience and case sharing, making the content closer to daily life.
From weekly gender equality courses to extended caregiver support lectures, the overall plan connects the needs of different family roles and helps gender equality move gradually from ideas into daily dialogue and companionship.
