Welcoming a new baby often brings unexpected questions for first-time parents. Severe morning sickness, changes in a baby's stool color, or breastfeeding issues such as milk blisters or low milk supply may cause concern. When online information differs, parents may feel anxious. The Health Promotion Administration therefore set up the 0800-870-870 Maternal and Child Care Hotline so parents can quickly receive professional advice.

The hotline is answered by staff with backgrounds in nursing, psychology, social work, and infant care. They provide guidance on pregnancy care, postpartum recovery, and daily infant care. Services are available in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Indonesian, and Vietnamese, helping families with different language backgrounds seek support more easily.

Statistics show that in 2025 the hotline received 14,417 consultations, about 60 percent from parents expecting or caring for their first child. The most common questions involve newborn care and breastfeeding. Many also ask about babies waking frequently at night or changes in stool color and frequency. If symptoms may affect health, callers are advised to seek medical care early.

The hotline operates Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding national holidays. In addition to phone consultations, parents can obtain parenting information through the website and LINE, receiving reminders based on pregnancy stage or the baby's age.
