The bluefin tuna season has entered its tourism season, and the 2026 Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural Tourism Festival kicked off in early May and will run until July 5th. Following the festival are a Xiaoliuqiu concert, a food promotion banquet, a large tuna market, a classic night event, and tour packages. This year, the Pingtung County Government has used the "Three Treasures of Donggang" as its main visual theme, designing bluefin tuna, sakura shrimp, and oilfish roe as cute cartoon characters to showcase the connection between Donggang's fishing industry, seafood cuisine, and local tourism.
This long-running fishing tourism event covers Donggang, Xiaoliuqiu, and the surrounding areas of Dapeng Bay this year, featuring music performances, market sales, banquets, souvenir exchanges, and package tours, connecting local ingredients, port commercial districts, and coastal tourism into various weekend events.
During the festival, the "Stay in Xiaoliuqiu Concert" will be held on May 9th in Xiaoliuqiu, featuring performances by several well-known artists, extending the bluefin tuna season's tourism route from Donggang to the outlying islands. The "Food Promotion Banquet" will be held on June 6th at the plaza in front of Donglong Temple, featuring banquet dishes prepared with local ingredients and singing performances, showcasing the unique flavors of Donggang.
The Big Tuna Market will take place from June 13th to 14th at Dapeng Bay International Leisure Zone, bringing together seafood snacks, creative handicrafts, and hundreds of vendors, with singing performances and a fireworks show planned. The "Classic Night" on June 27th will feature Richie Jen on stage and is listed as one of the main evening events in late June.
This year's event also includes the redemption of Donggang's Three Treasures keychains, discounts at local stores, co-branded beer, and limited-edition merchandise; during the High Speed Rail holiday, one-day and two-day tours connecting Donggang, Xiaoliuqiu, and surrounding attractions will be offered.
