According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, on February 6, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 8,361 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 18,431 new recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 126,227.

This is the sixth day in a row that the Philippines has had fewer than 10,000 cases of COVID-19, which is thought to be caused by the more transmissible Omicron form.

Since February 1, the country has seen larger daily recoveries than infections for the ninth day in a row, despite a reduced testing rate. On Jan. 15, the number of new cases reached a high of 39,004 new cases.

With this, the overall number of confirmed infections is currently 3,609,568 and the number of recoveries is 3,428,815.

According to the Department of Health, 96.2 percent of the 126,227 active cases are mild or asymptomatic; specifically, 116,598 people have light cases, 4,864 have asymptomatic cases, 3,008 have moderate cases, 1,447 have severe cases, and 310 have critical cases.

The Department of Health also reported the deaths of 312 persons, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 54,526.

264 duplicates were also eliminated from the total case count, with 194 of them being recoveries, according to the health service.
