After children return to school, they have more contact with classmates through classes and play. This has made many parents concerned about enterovirus. The Taichung City Health Bureau reminds the public that enterovirus can occur throughout the year and spreads easily through droplets, contact, or the fecal-oral route. Therefore, daily prevention is especially important.
The simplest way to prevent enterovirus is to develop the habit of frequent handwashing. Remember the five steps: wet, rub, rinse, cup, and dry. Hands should also be washed at key times, such as before eating, before touching infants, after using the toilet, after blowing the nose, and before or after seeing a doctor. Frequently touched items like tables, toys, and door handles can also be cleaned with diluted bleach.

If a child is diagnosed with enterovirus, they should rest at home and avoid school or childcare centers for a while to prevent spreading the virus. Most infections are mild, but parents should watch for warning signs such as unusual drowsiness, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, or a fast heartbeat. If these symptoms appear, medical care should be sought as soon as possible.
Schools and childcare institutions have also checked handwashing facilities before the enterovirus season and promote proper handwashing habits among children.
