The 2025 Changhua Moonlight Lantern Festival officially began on the evening of December 28 at the Great Buddha Scenic Area on Bagua Mountain, attracting thousands to its grand lighting ceremony. The festival runs nightly from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM until March 2, featuring light shows and adorable emoji installations to celebrate the New Year.

Changhua County Mayor Wang Hui-Mei stated that this year’s festival features an “Emoji Wonderland,” bringing emojis from instant messaging screens into the real world as the centerpiece of the lantern festival, offering visitors a fresh and exciting visual feast.

Three Highlights Creating a Festive Atmosphere

  1. 1.Three Special Events:
Key celebrations include “Winter Holiday Fun” on January 25, “Lantern Festival Celebration” on February 8, and “Valentine’s Day Romance” on February 14. Limited-edition emoji lanterns with various expressions will be distributed on-site, adding a fun collectible element.
  2. 2.Light Show with Emoji and Music:
The festival combines the Great Buddha light show with licensed original songs from the American Emoji Movie, showcasing various emoji expressions and a delightful atmosphere. Every Friday, a special light show synchronized to Energy’s hit song Friday Night invites visitors to join in the 16-squat dance challenge.
  3. 3.Interactive Installations:
A sea-of-lights maze and dynamic eye installations on the pathway to the Buddha provide interactive surprises. Other popular attractions include the Bagua Village Ferris wheel and mini train, accessible for free with proof of NT$300 local purchases or by joining the “iPlay Changhua” LINE group.
