In line with Earth Day 2024 theme &ldquoOur Power, Our Planet,&rdquo the Ministry of Environment held a press conference on April 22 to launch the nationwide tour of the net-zero mini-play series &ldquoGreen Kids on Stage.&rdquo Through plays adapted from environmental picture books, the initiative promotes green consumption, low-carbon transport, and raises awareness on sustainability.

Deputy Minister Shen Wen-Chen stated that six environmental picture books were created, each themed around daily life aspects such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment. By adapting these into theatrical performances, the Ministry aims to make the messages more engaging, hoping children can bring these ideas home and inspire family participation. She emphasized that the Ministry is not just a policy maker, but also a facilitator of sustainable living.

The tour is executed by the ISO 20121-certified theater group &ldquoTianma Creative Circus,&rdquo combining circus acts with song and dance, using electric vehicles for transport. The premiere included performances of The Fire-Breathing Dragon&rsquos Castle and Green Sprout and Friends Take Action, which used vivid storytelling to engage children in net-zero and sustainability topics.Through engaging theater, students learn the importance of net-zero and sustainability while enjoying laughter. &ldquoOur goal is for children to arrive with smiles and leave with love and motivation,&rdquo said Tianma director Lu Zihan. The plays merge fun with education, enabling parents and children to learn about environmental protection together.

One character, a &ldquofire-breathing dragon&rdquo representing excessive energy consumption, sparked enthusiastic discussions. Students from Fuxing Elementary said it reminded them of carbon emissions and environmental damage, while students from Guoyu Experimental Elementary said they would start by turning off lights, conserving water, and taking public transport.

The Ministry highlighted that the tour is not only educational, but also a catalyst for public participation in net-zero action. Aside from performances, people can support green living by using energy-saving appliances, reducing single-use plastics, and using public transport.
