Co-hosted by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development of the Ministry of Culture and the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center, the "Firefly Cinema" will launch a northern Taiwan tour from June 12 to August 23, 2025. A total of 18 free film screenings will take place in Keelung, Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli, inviting the public to immerse themselves in the light and shadow of Taiwanese films and experience their unique charm.

This year&rsquos curated selection includes a diverse range of genres, such as animation, drama, and documentary. Highlights include the fantasy animation Monster Forest, the Golden Horse Award-winning Pigsy: The Battle for Tomorrow, the touching family drama Spring Walk, the inspirational youth film Ping Pong Boys, the romantic I Want to Be with You, and the documentary Auntie, Let&rsquos Go to School, which addresses dementia. The lineup caters to all age groups.

According to Yeh Yu-Cheng, Director of the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center, Firefly Cinema is not just about movie appreciation but a journey of cultural exchange. Animated films spark creativity and childhood wonder, while dramas and documentaries touch the heart and provoke reflection on social issues&mdashshowcasing the depth and warmth of local Taiwanese stories.

This year&rsquos event features themed screenings such as &ldquoGender Equality&rdquo, &ldquoCultural Accessibility&rdquo, &ldquoPet-Friendly&rdquo, and &ldquoParent-Child Reading&rdquo, creating a welcoming and inclusive viewing environment. Some sessions even extend into correctional facilities to spread the power of film to marginalized audiences. The Hsinchu screening will take place at the historic Hsinchu Public Hall, offering a breezy summer night cinema experience blended with cultural heritage.

The tour kicks off on June 12 at Zhongping Community in Tongluo Township, Miaoli. This community has been recognized with the Miaoli County Gold Award for Excellence for its efforts in long-term care and social support. That night, Auntie, Let&rsquos Go to School will be screened, telling a moving story of elder-community integration and inviting audiences to reflect on how to support those living with dementia.

Firefly Cinema is completely free, with on-site games and raffles for all ages. Bring the whole family and enjoy a healing cinematic summer. Let&rsquos support high-quality Taiwanese films and feel the warmth and power of Taiwan&rsquos stories.
